Looking back on 2020

2020 was a rough year, no doubt about it. The COVID-19 pandemic made everything more stressful, took away many of our freedoms, and left the world feeling like the whole year was a dumpster fire! There were also some difficult personal things for me unrelated to Covid. And yet…there were some good things, and I’d like to focus on those.

For me, the good things involved art and sewing. Thank goodness I had art and sewing!

Here are some of my highlights of 2020:

  1. I wrote and illustrated a children’s book, which I self-published on Amazon! This was a huge accomplishment for me, and I’m so proud of the result.
  2. I was invited to participate in Sew a Softie for their summer and winter programs. I created two free sewing patterns geared toward teaching kids how to sew. It was lovely to be part of such a positive project.
  3. I created two other sewing patterns and had so much fun with the process.
  4. I took part in Inktober for the first time, which reignited my love of traditional art supplies. (Rather than digital art.) This inspired me to paint, collage, and draw on paper more than ever.

2020 changed many of my attitudes about art for the better. For example, I really and truly stopped worrying about what others would think of my art and started making art for myself, which made it much more enjoyable. I also realized that I love the physical aspects of art – cutting fabric, dipping a brush into goopy paint, moving around, and making a mess!

I wish everyone lots of creative fun in 2021!
